The default UIButton style is a white round rect button with dark blue text. While this button style matches the UITableView cells, it looks kinda funky when used in any other context.

If you want to have your button look any different than this, you have to use images. Unfortunately, not all of us have the skill to create attractive button images or have access to a graphic designer. A little trick I’ve learned is to use Dashcode to crate the button images. Dashcode’s button editor has many different options for creating buttons:
